Mother Found

The missing mother I mentioned in my previous post has been found deceased, 15 miles from where her car was originally found when she disappeared three weeks ago. We will never know if the Bloodhounds could have been of help initially and possibly could have found her before she was murdered.

This underscores the need for more discussion leading to a better understanding of this underutilized resource.

SDU-5,

Well put. You echo my feelings. We walk the same fine line and only go when we are called out through law enforcement or emergency agencies. Our creed is also to under promise and put all we can into delivering results. We always clarify that we can’t promise anything but we will do our best. When we see what these dogs do consistently in practice exercises its hard not be become an evangelist for the breed. We are also doing a lot of public talks and demonstrations and are putting out a news release on our existence next week.

This means a lot to me being that you are in law enforcement and also involve in K-9 SAR. Al and Patti Means of Red Rose SAR are in Lancaster PA and are great Bloodhound SAR providers and instructors.

As someone who has witnessed the miraculous talents of these dogs, it is impossible for me to see any reasoning behind a decision that prohibits the use of these dogs as a resource for saving lives.

We are getting more and more requests to do presentations and demonstrations from the private sector. Have also decided to issue a news release to the local media. We will see how that goes. We also offer presentations and demos to schools. It all helps and as you say, "someday people will catch on. Reminds me of the "how do you eat and elephant--one bite at a time." Same goes here, I guess. Stay in touch.
